The name of the NGO

The name Artlantic is a fusion of ART and Atlantic, representing both artistic expression and the Atlantic Ocean—the waters crossed during the transatlantic slave trade. This name reflects our mission to acknowledge history while using art as a tool for healing and connection. ART highlights the core of our work—using creative expression to foster reflection, inspire dialogue, and build bridges between cultures.

Artlantic Logo

The Artlantic logo is inspired by the historical connections between Denmark, the US Virgin Islands (formerly the Danish West Indies), and Ghana. The three triangles in the logo symbolize these locations, and when placed on a world map, they precisely align with these three geographical points.

Our organization works to facilitate and curate cultural, musical, and artistic initiatives rooted in Denmark’s colonial history. We highlight the connections between Denmark and the former Danish West Indies, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Ghana, which played a central role in the triangular trade. This trade involved Danish trading forts along the West African coast and the transportation of enslaved people to the Danish West Indies.
